While many of you fellas (and some gals) were out fishing this weekend, Brian and I put our training to the test in the Great American Mud Run down in Chesapeake. We ran this same run back in November and did okay, but we've been busting our tails since then training for this and a couple other runs we have later in the year.

I was most excited about this as my 'comeback' run following the ruptured pectoral tendon I suffered back in late-January. This weekend was almost exactly 5-months post surgery, and I've really only had about 6-8 weeks of heavy training to prep for this (released from PT at the end of April). I was very excited to have completed all the obstacles by myself, except for one. There were some swinging rings where you had to cross a water pit, but I'm just not ready to hang full body-weight on that one bad shoulder/arm. So I just jumped in and trudged across. I was also pretty excited to have gotten over the 8-foot walls without assistance, which I was expecting to need some help on.

To top it off, our times were way down from November - nearly 10-minutes faster. Our goal going into this was to be in the top 20% overall, but amazingly we blew it away, and finished in the top-5% overall (over 3000 runners), and we were 24th and 25th in our respective age group of 35-39 year olds. We did leave some on the course, and in retrospect, we probably could have pushed a little harder, but all in all I'm pretty happy with where I am following the injury/surgery back on 1/31.

Our next BIG challenge is the Super Spartan race on the slopes of Wintergreen in August. We viewed this as a 'training run', and we have a long way to go to tackle that 8-10 mile race. We also have the Spartan Beast (12-14miles) scheduled for November down in SC.

FWIW - Brian is down about 60lbs from where he started months ago. I'm down about 20lbs (again) from where I started, and then restarted following my injury and subsequent sulking in sorrow for a couple months.

You guys are doing great. Any weight loss is good. But getting in shape was the best to come from all this. Keep up the good work.

On a side note to give you an idea how good brian is doing.. when I first tricked him and wayne into running one if these. He was so slow...wayne beat him...and if im correct since that first race striper has reduced his time by 50%. Which is unbelievable.

P.s. wayne was and still spends his days on the couch fighting his dog for room to lay down. Lol

Hahaha - they are different colors, but perfect for the type of running we are doing.
