Default James River Fishing Report 1-23

JaT and dropped in at Osbourne around 7:30 or so and it was still pretty cold. Water was up clarity not too bad but cold and up. Headed down to the Dutch ramp/power plant to see if the plant was pumping. Didnt seem to be too much happening around the outflow so we headed up to Meades. Water temp in Meades was 38 degrees or so. Chucked jerk baits, some cranks, some of this some of that and nada. Fished a few points and banks and not much happening other than looking at a ton of geese and some goose hunters who need some calling lessons.

Headed down to the barge pits and saw the temps climbing up really thought the fish would hit as we moved up close moving from high 40's to mid 50's water temp wise. We through spinner baits, crank baits jerk baits and again nothing. Started flipping creature baits in to the lay downs along the bank. Jay broke off on something of size on the hookset and maybe another bite or so but still nothing major.

End of the day, checked out the plant again and then headed back in to Meades, temps came up a little and after more attempts to lose a $15 jerk bait we headed back to the ramp to head out.

Good day, learned about some places on the James that I had always fished for catfish and striper but not bass. Good day but no feesh.

Still a little cold in Meades. We don't really start getting in to them until the temps are in the mid 40's. Surprised the Barge Pit didn't produce. I've caught them in there on Senkos and a jig in the winter but that was the only thing we could get bit on that day.

E, i just couldn't go that deep in the bag!! I flipped a sweet beaver around most of the time in the barge pits, I got broken off on that, and had another bite, which was most certainly a bass, and I was running my mouth and not paying attention. Serves me right!
