Default 6/17/12 Shenandoah and 2 new personal bests!

So this afternoon I went up to a new section of the Shenandoah I had never been too before up near Bentonville. I left the wife on the bank to read a book. It turned out to be an awesome time! At first after launching it struggled a big because the river was a random mess of shallow and deep holes. I really could not get going because I would get hung up on rocks and stuff so finally I just get out and start walking up river pulling the kayak behind me until I get to a point where I could paddle. I saw a new fawn along the bank and that was pretty cool I started off using some ribbon worms then some drop shot worms and really did not get many bites. Then I switched to a grub and started bringing in fish. Then I switched to a crawdad body and instantly things changed. I caught a bunch of 10-12"ers and then I landed my new personal best. A 18" small mouth. It fought hard and was a blast to catch. THEN 20 minutes later I beat that personal best with a new on catching a 19" FAT small mouth!! This dude was HEAVY and he fought like mad to get away. I was so excited bringing him in I was screaming and hollering! It was so much fun! There was another kayaker passing by and I made him come over and take my picture with it haha. Anyways here are the pics!

    18" smallie!

    19" smallie 20 minutes later!

I accosted some random guy passing by and made him take my pic!!

Very nice pics! Where did you pick up the yellow ruler board? I may need to get my hands on one of those.

If you get it make sure you put something on it to keep it floating if it goes into the water! haha

What do you recommend, other than just securing it to the yak?

I glued some foam to mine but there is a hole in the end of it so I think a big salt water bobber tied to it would be better.

Is that lake up there by you all private or is there a public access?

It's private. I could certainly get you into the community as a visitor, but unfortunately they don't allow any boats on the lake that are not registered with the community, including kayaks. (which I think is a little ridiculous!)
I can understand now allowing guests to bring in gas powered boats, but what harm can a kayak or canoe do?

The salt water bobber is a good idea. Had a similar concern regarding my $4 stake out pole (ski pole) I got, in regards to me losing it if it didn't float. I took a pool noodle and cut a 6in. section off and slid it up to the handle of the pole. Then drilled a hole through the pole just under the bottom of the noodle and attached an anchor shackle to hold it in place. My anchor trolley system should be here in the next day or two and can't wait to get it all setup/installed and get out on the water this weekend!
