Oregon Inlet Fishing Report May 14, 2014
The much anticipated cobia season seemed to be almost too good to believe today as many boats spotted very good numbers, and several citation were landed. The Oregon Inlet fishing report for offshore was still decent with solid gaffer dolphin being found along the grass. Some charters are finding solid grass lines while others are fishing broken lines. The inshore action is still very strong with cobia now being thrown in the mix.
The Oregon Inlet fishing report from Legacy was everything a charter good expect. Early on the captain was able to locate the gaffer dolphin and before all was done, 21 nice gaffer dolphin were caught – all on the bigger side. The crew opted to chase down some cobia and were able to connect on 3 – with two keepers. In total they saw at least a dozen cobia. The cobia were more than willing to eat a jig.
The charter Point Runner Fishing out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center reports a great mixed bag offshore. The crew only found a few dolphin offshore but were able to go deep and land a limit of tilefish. Turning back inshore to locate some cobia was the next call. The crew landed six cobia which including three citations – a 50, 42 and 45 pounder.
A-Salt Weapon reports a solid catch of 30 nice gaffer dolphin, claiming this is the best dolphin fishery in the last 5 years. Along with other boats, the charter Country Girl also fishing out of Oregon Inlet, had a great day of fishing with many gaffer dolphin including a nice 47 pounder.
The weather will affect some of the offshore action and inshore fishing – the forecast as it stands is for south winds 10-15 knots, building to 20-25 knots over the next 48 hours. A small craft advisory will be in effect.
