Virginians have many opportunities to catch trout across the state including native and stocked trout. *For those anglers who have ever wondered what rivers and streams will be stocked; how many trout should be stocked; or whether new bodies should be considered – here is your chance to learn and voice your opinion to DGIF. *The new stocked trout management plan will help anglers and outdoor enthusiast learn from the states new proposed plan.
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) *has made the Draft Virginia Stocked Trout Management Plan available online for review until September 15th, 2015. *This plan provides the agency’s road map for supporting stocked trout in Virginia for the next 10 years. *This is an important piece of management that all should take the chance to read, and provide feedback on.
The plan was drafted through a collaboration of fisheries bilogist and staff in conjunction with researches from the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech. *The management plan is attempting to balance the values of the stakeholders with that of the natural resources, ecology and habitat. *In addition, DGIF has held ten public meetings across the state since October 2013 to gain feedback about current stocking efforts. *This was taken along with the hundreds of comments left on the agency website in order to develop the draft plan.
In addition, if you were a Virginia Trout Licence buyer, you may have been one of the 5,400 who received a survey in the mail requesting feedback, or one of the many anglers asked to assist with a creel survey at one of the 17 various stocked trout waters. *All of this information was also facotred into the draft management plan.
DGIF encourages anyone with an interest in the stocked trout program to comment on this draft management plan.* Interested individuals can read the plan and submit comments through a link on the DGIF web site athttp://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing...nagement-plan/* or mail comments to:
