If you have ever contemplated building some enclosed deer blinds then this might be the summer to start your planning.* Based on weather and satellite data, scientist are looking at the US entering into another El Nino this fall, and carrying through springtime.* But in a world of crazy weather jargon like El Nino, La Nina, Polar Vortex and Yankee Clippers – what does this really mean…
For sportsman in the Mid Atlantic, this means that we most likely will see a wetter than normal fall/winter – and possibly cooler than normal temperatures at times.* The exact weather patterns aren’t as always predictable, and regionalized fronts can also have an impact at times.* However scientist feel there is an 85% chance that the current El Nino will carrying through this winter.
With this in mind, how might it affect your outdoor fall and winter activities?

  • Consider a covered deer stand with a portal blind umbrella for your climber or ladder stand, or build an enclosed blind. Don’t miss out on a day of hunting due to some wet conditions.
  • This plays well into waterfowl hunters that hunt swamps and beaver ponds. Grab a duck call that works well in timber, and some magnum puddle duck decoys and some wood duck decoys.
  • If you deer hunt the perimeter of swamps, you mean need to make sure that your stand site doesn’t remain inaccessible at critical times.
  • The big unknown is exactly how much rain or snow does this mean – in early fall and can be critical to development of late winter food plots as crops finish out. It can also mean a mess.
  • If you fish rivers, it could be challenging depending on how much moisture comes and when.
