Thread: Crawdads for bait at the Chick river?

Default Crawdads for bait at the Chick river?

Has anybody here ever used crawdads for bait while fishing the chick? Just curious. Fishing there seems so rough over the last few years and I'm just wondering what live bait e.g. crawdads might do/have done for increasing one's odds at landing some fish.

Which section of the Chick - lake or river? Chick river has been pretty solid the past few years, many here can help you with some patterns. I am sure they will chime in soon.

The river. I usually fish just north of River's rest and then just south of it. I have never gone to the mouth of the James river and tried my luck there. My usual process is fishing the cypress trees with worms or spinnerbaits and same for creeks, pads, and wood. I've had some good outings, but skunked more times than I care to remember. Still love the place though!

Ummm, the fish have been very willing to hit a variety of artificial baits during our outings. Jigs, plastics, squarebills, and spinnerbaits have all produced.

Short answer to your question is yes, live bait will produce.

Never tried live crawdads but I don't see why they wouldn't work. 4" finesse worms and squarebill cranks should get you a few bites right now but it's tough for sure!
