    Default 3/4 fom

Let me start by saying I have to do this again in 3 weeks so I can't go into too much detail. haha

Mike and I decided last minute to get in on this one. We fished the river for the first time in 2017 2 weeks ago and focused on 1 creek. We caught about 14 lbs that day and kind of figured a little pattern. That was our only practice before this tournament and we only fished that one creek.

Tournament day started out cold and with a lower than normal tide. We decided to make a run down river a ways and started fishing some main river wood. On about my 5th cast with a finesse worm on a spinny pole (that's right, I was using a sissy stick lol) I get a thump. Set the hook and the battle is on. Took a while but we get the fish in the boat and it turns out to be an 8 lber (7.97). That was a crazy way to start the day but it was awesome! After I settle my nerves a bit I catch another small keeper. A little later Mike gets in the game and catches a 3 lber and a couple small ones and we have a limit at 8:00. Totally surprised by that. Once that slows down we decide to run down to the creek we caught them in 2 weeks ago. Get there and the creek is all but dry. Place we caught the fish had no water on it. So we messed around in there an caught a couple small ones and moved to a flat. We stumble on a wad of fish and caught several in one little spot. Mostly plastics or jigs. We upgraded several times but with nothing over 2 1/2 lbs. From there I had a gut feeling about a spot that we've never really fished in the Spring. We had a decent limit so we decided to make a run. We start fishing and Mike connects with a 3 lber. Nice! Then I hook up and it's a 5 lber. We get that one in the net and went "Ike" for a minute. lol We knew at this point we had 20+ lbs and maybe a shot at the win. Mike catches another 3+ and now were thinking we have close to 22 lbs. We catch several more nice fish but not helpers.

At this point we decide to run back up river to finish out the day near the ramp in case we have some mechanical issues. Mike throws a trap and I throw a chatterbait on a flat and we both catch a few fish in the 2-2 1/2 lb range but no help. We finally head in to see what we have. Turns out we had 22.30 lbs and it was the best bag we have ever weighed in for a tournament. We were feeling good until we heard about another big bag. Turns out they had 26+ and an 11+ big fish. Congrats to them! We did our best and had a very fun day! We probably caught 30 bass which totally shocked me based on the colder post front weather conditions. I expected it to be tough. That was definitely a day to remember and I thank the good Lord for that "gut" feeling I had. Hope we can do it again in a few weeks!

For whatever reason the fish don't look that big in the picture as they did in real life. lol
