Default Look for some rivers to wade in for small mouth bass

    Hello,

I live in the NOVA area. I've fished all over northern Virginia, but i'm looking to expand on my fishing spots.

Are there any rivers around that are shallow enough to wade in? I'm looking to catch some SM and panfish. I've looked into the south fork of the Shenandoah out by Front Royal. But it just looks like everyone that goes out there has a canoe or kayak. There any good spots down on the rappahannock in fredericksburg?

    Thank you.

I've heard that the Confluence is good. Rapidan and Rapp.

Welcome 88mm. Pretty good wading above the Rt. 1 bridge in Fredericksburg on the Rapp. Lots of pools and slippery rocks....be careful. Not sure what condition it's in right now with all the rain last week.

There is a little creek in Fairfax called Accontink Creek. It used to be a wintertime trout fishery that the game department stocked. Not sure if they still do that or not. There are quite a few deeper holes throughout that creek that could have fish in it.

Shenandoah rapp or upper potomac are good for wadeing. Just not when the rivers are high

Thanks for all the great information.

I will definitely be giving these rivers a look. For fishing the Shenandoah/Potomac, is there a particular spot i can make my way down to the water at?

I believe they still stock Accontink Creek with trout during the winter. They also have their urban archery program along that creek as well.

Not sure where you are in NOVA but check out Scott's Run and Riverbend on the Upper Potomac. I wade Scott's Run all the time, there is a parking lot on Georgetown Pike that is approximately a mile from the river. Good numbers of smallies there. I have not waded at Riverbend but I hear it is better, it is further up Georgetown Pike to Great Falls.
