    Default Kayaking around Powhatan Lakes

I am determined to figure the upper lake out. Went out Friday AM for several hours but go out a little than I wished, hit the water in my kayak around 7:00AM. Spent a lot of time around wood and pads, or just pads alone. Had several fish blow up on the frog and I figure I just sucked but after talking with G3 Mike, I realized my problem. Several strikes on the frog missed and when I pitched back in there was a second miss - or big strike and the frog was still sitting there in the water. Mike reminded me about bucks watching the fry and that I problem was rolling a frog over a bed and the buck was knocking the frog away. But, it should be just about game on in the pads. The next trip was Sunday, launched my kayak right at day break. I figured I would look to see if the pads were ready - but nothing. Working a frog from a kayak is a bit different for sure. I started working the front edges of the pads and hard cover and managed several bass. I threw everything - paddle tail swimbaits, chatterbaits, fluke, frogs and spinnerbaits. I only caught fish both days on a fluke... frustrating.

This unfortunately was my best fish too...

I keep thinking the same, its a beautiful lake, I would like to catch a toad from there - but I shouldnt get wrapped up in it. At some point I am going to turtle the kayak no doubt.
