    Default Drum and Flounder Report

I went down and spent some time with my parents down in NC (Beaufort/Morehead City) and dragged my kayak down. For years I had been eye balling a particular stretch of marshes that looked really good. I finally decided to try it. I went armed with a handful of baits, but mainly wanted to try redfish on topwater - who doesnt like a topwater hit regardless of species. I paddled into a remote little bay and found bait everywhere, I knew this was a good sign, tide was incoming. I worked an Overcast Hawgzilla and quickly found some willing redfish. The topwater hits are pretty awesome even for smaller fish. The only drawback with the smaller fish is they are worse than the larger ones at actually connecting with a topwater plug. In all I spent two days fishing these back bays and caught a dozen or so reds, but I only fished for about 3 hours each morning. I also managed a nice 18" flounder on a redfish magic - he went home in the cooler. On of the days I went with a neighbor and managed to scored another 10 flounder fishing some deeper drops in 36'.

Mirrolure has some nice baits, but honestly, I kind of like the Hawgzilla better. More compact and the a deeper vibration.

These dudes were all kind of cookie cutter size, but I had a blast. I was using a Penn Battalion inshore rod, fast action. And I had just switch to Super 8 Slick in 30# with about a 4' 10# fluoro leader as the water was fairly clear.
