Thread: Why do you fish so close

Default Why do you fish so close

Its frustrating to be on the water and have guys have no etiquette or class. If there is plenty of water, why must you leap frog me and pickup fishing 60 feet down the bank. Then, you do it a second time an hour later. Sorry for the rant, just a frustrating day with other people. Not like I was crushing fish and giving you a reason to come camp on me.

Hopefully this just gives people pause to consider how they fish public waters.

This will be a source for frustration for all anglers, regardless of species or event. The 50-yard rule is pushed to the envelope in every tourney I fish, including our Fishers of Men events. Some act like they're entitled to the water. Others act like the body of water is named after them (I often refer to people as Mr Smith or Miss Anna - most never get it). Best medicine, IMHO, is to do the right thing in your boat. Be the example others should emulate. When in a tourney, be sure to capture boat hull #. Most TDs are pretty tuff on people who do not fish courteously.

I couldn't tell you how many times I've came to a area that I wanted to fish someone already on it or within 60-70 yards and I'll just go somewhere else. Now if your 70 yards away and your boat is positioned like you've already gone by, pending scenario I may pull in behind you +50 yards and start fishing.

Potomac is where I've encountered this the most.

Happens on shore all the time too. It's absolutely amazing how many people have no concept of personal space when it comes to fishing. I don't want to be anywhere near other anglers if I can help it.
